An innovative sealing solution: discover the advantages of encapsulated O-rings
Encapsulated O-rings are seals specially designed to solve common sealing problems in industry. They combine the excellent chemical and thermal resistance of PTFE with the flexibility needed to seal different fluids in any type of installation.
There are two types of encapsulated O-ring:
Solid-core O-rings:
These encapsulated O-rings have a silicone or FKM (Viton®) core. Both materials offer excellent elasticity and compression, with silicone being better suited to environments with very low temperatures.
Hollow-core O-rings:
These encapsulated O-rings are ideal when extreme elasticity is required. Although they may compromise the balance between compression and recovery, they are perfect for delicate applications.
Whatever the type of inner core, encapsulated O-rings can have an outer jacket made of PFA or FEP. PFA is excellent at resisting corrosive chemicals, while FEP has similar characteristics but is slightly weaker in terms of mechanical performance.
The advantages of encapsulated O-rings are:
– Excellent resistance to different types of media, especially chemically aggressive ones.
– A wide operating temperature range, at both high and low temperatures.
– Essential in the pharmaceutical and food industries, as they are made from FDA-approved materials, making them suitable for food and drug processing applications.
– Ideal for applications where hygiene control is required.
– They provide suitable sealing solutions for the chemical and petrochemical industries.
Despite their wide range of applications, encapsulated O-rings also have certain limitations.
First and foremost, they should not be used in dynamic applications. These parts are better suited to static applications or low-speed rotary applications.
Because their outer jacket is very thin, the O-rings can be damaged by contact with aggregates or abrasive products, so they should not be used in such environments.
