Klingerit® and Klingersil® gaskets: EN, DIN and ASME industrial standards

When selecting industrial gaskets, it is not only the material composition that matters: regulatory compliance determines which gasket can be installed in each process. Engineers and maintenance managers need to ensure safety, sealing and chemical compatibility under European and American standards. Below we summarise where Klingerit® gaskets (fibres + rubber) and Klingersil® gaskets (synthetic fibres + high-performance rubber) fit, and which certifications support their use.

Klingerit® gaskets: tradition and applicable standards

  • Historical use: demanding thermal and mechanical applications (steam, hot water, pressurised fluids) under classic DIN and EN standards.
  • Current limitations: for environmental reasons (the presence of certain fibres), it has given way to Klingersil®, except in older installations or where the applicable regulations allow it.
  • Typical context: maintenance of plants with legacy DIN equipment, one-off replacements and dimensional compatibility with standard flanges.

Klingersil® gaskets: today's compliance standard

Klingersil® gaskets represent the evolution of Klingerit® and cover a wide range of current standards:

  • EN 13555: mechanical behaviour and sealing parameters for flange gaskets.
  • TA Luft / VDI 2440: German certification for fugitive emissions, key in chemicals and petrochemicals.
  • API / ASME: American standards for flanges according to pressure/temperature.
  • DIN / EN 1514: standardised dimensions and tolerances for flat gaskets

  • Where they are preferred: chemical and petrochemical plants, high-pressure gas and steam lines, and processes subject to environmental and safety audits.

Standards comparison: Klingerit® vs Klingersil®

Characteristic Klingerit® gaskets Klingersil® gaskets
Main standards Classic DIN/EN EN 13555, TA Luft, API/ASME, EN 1514
Typical use Older installations, steam, moderate pressure Chemical processes, high-pressure gas and steam
Restrictions Environmental limitations (fibres) Meets environmental and low-leakage regulations
Safety Suitable in contexts governed by older standards High reliability and current certifications

Selection criteria: standards first

  • New or refurbished project: prioritise Klingersil® for its fit with current standards (EN, TA Luft, API/ASME).
  • Maintenance shutdown in an older DIN installation: Klingerit® may be justified if local and plant regulations allow it.
  • Environmental audits / low emissions: explicitly check TA Luft / VDI 2440 and EN 13555 sealing factors.

If you need alternatives because of the fluid or chemicals (e.g. hydrocarbons, solvents, strong acids), we can assess PTFE or combinations with graphite depending on pressure and temperature.

Conclusion

The key criterion is not just mechanical or chemical resistance: it is the regulatory fit required by your sector. Klingersil® ensures compliance with European and American standards in new projects; Klingerit® can provide continuity in older installations under classic DIN/EN frameworks.
