Gasket sealing levels according to IP rating

Gasket sealing levels according to IP rating

IEC 60529 sets out how to classify the level of sealing protection provided by gaskets in electrical and electronic equipment.

IP, which stands for “Ingress Protection”, indicates the level of protection the gasket provides to the equipment, according to the following scale:

First digit – Protection against ingress of solid foreign objects, including dust:

· IP 0x: No protection

· IP 1x: Equipment protected against solid objects larger than 50mm

· IP 2x: Equipment protected against solid objects larger than 12mm

· IP 3x: Equipment protected against solid objects larger than 2.5mm

· IP 4x: Equipment protected against solid objects larger than 1mm

· IP 5x: Equipment protected against dust

· IP 6x: Equipment completely protected against dust

Second digit – Protection against ingress of water:

· IP x0: No protection

· IP x1: Equipment protected against vertically falling water drops

· IP x2: Equipment protected against falling water drops when tilted up to 15º

· IP x3: Equipment protected against rain falling at up to 60º from vertical

· IP x4: Equipment protected against splashing water

· IP x5: Equipment protected against water jets

· IP x6: Equipment protected against heavy seas and powerful water jets

· IP x7: Equipment protected against the effects of temporary immersion

· IP x8: Equipment protected against the effects of continuous submersion

At Manufactures Cusell we manufacture industrial gaskets in a range of materials capable of meeting the requirements of the different IP classification levels, whether in solid or cellular silicone or in EPDM, neoprene, Viton or any other rubber. We also offer manufacturing in compressed fibre or other materials, depending on the operating conditions of each gasket. Contact us with any questions you may have about your industrial gaskets.
